Liquid Emotions in 0.5: the tier ladder and the Ancient twist
Liquid Emotions are the Delirium reward currency in PoE 2. The regular ladder (Diluted, standard, Concentrated, Potent) does three things in 0.5: instill amulets with Notable Passives, add Delirium to Waystones, and craft guaranteed modifiers onto regular Jewels, a use added in 0.5. Patch 0.5 added Ancient variants, and they do neither. They exist purely to craft rare Time-Lost Jewels, and the headline item, Ancient Potent Liquid Contempt, is one of the most expensive currencies in the league right now.
01 What Liquid Emotions are
Liquid Emotions are stackable currency items that drop from Delirium content: clear an area under Delirium fog and they show up in the completion rewards. The three Potent emotions are rarer; 0.5 guides put them on the map bosses of Delirious maps. If you started playing before 0.3.0 you knew them as Distilled Emotions; patch 0.3.0 renamed them and sorted the old ladder into the current Diluted and Concentrated potency tiers. The 13 emotions are spread across a four-step potency ladder, one tier per emotion: Diluted (Ire, Guilt, Greed), standard (Paranoia, Envy, Disgust, Despair), Concentrated (Fear, Suffering, Isolation) and Potent (Contempt, Ferocity, Melancholy, the three added in 0.5). There is no Diluted Contempt or Potent Ire; each emotion exists at exactly one potency. In 0.5 every step also has an Ancient counterpart, and those follow completely different rules. More on that below.
02 What the regular ones do
Regular Liquid Emotions have three uses in 0.5. The new one is jewel crafting: applied to a regular Jewel, an emotion replaces a random existing mod with a guaranteed modifier from that emotion's set, Greater Essence style. The other two run through the Instill window (right click any emotion to open it).
- Instill an amulet. Three emotions go in, the amulet goes in the top slot, and you get a Notable Passive enchanted onto it. With Diluted through Concentrated emotions that is a Notable from the skill tree, and every tree Notable has a fixed three-emotion recipe: hover it on your passive tree and press Alt to see it. Instilling with the new Potent emotions instead grants one of 16 exclusive Notables that do not exist anywhere on the tree. This is PoE 2's version of anointing.
- Instill a Waystone. Up to three emotions on a Waystone add Delirious effect plus the reward modifiers tied to each emotion. Harder map, more loot. The added mods preview at the bottom of the Instill window before you commit.
03 The 0.5 twist: Ancient emotions
Here is the part that catches people. Ancient Liquid Emotions cannot instill amulets or Waystones. Their usage text is explicit: right click the emotion, then left click a rare Time-Lost Jewel. That is the entire use case. They are Time-Lost Jewel crafting currency, full stop.
The flagship is Ancient Potent Liquid Contempt: it removes a random modifier and augments a rare Time-Lost Jewel with a guaranteed crafted mod, either +1 Prefix Modifier allowed or +1 Suffix Modifier allowed. That raises the jewel's mod ceiling, which is why it prices like an endgame craft and the rest of the Ancient pool does not. Ancient emotions are also gated: 0.5 guides report they only start dropping once you have taken the relevant Delirium nodes on the Atlas passive tree. One 0.5 guide names a specific gating notable, but we could not confirm the node name in a second source, so check your own Delirium cluster in game.
04 Time-Lost Jewels in one minute
Time-Lost Jewels are passive tree jewels that grant nothing by themselves. Instead they modify the other passives inside their radius, and their best rolls scale the small passives near them into serious stat blocks. Rare ones come in three types: Ruby (martial and armour mods), Emerald (evasion and ranged), Sapphire (energy shield and caster). The Diamond version exists as the unique Against the Darkness, which can roll across the whole pool. A well-socketed rare Time-Lost Jewel is best-in-slot for a lot of builds, which is exactly why a currency that adds an extra mod slot to one is worth real money.
05 What they are worth on day 14
Snapshot from our live price pages, June 12 (day 14). Ancient Potent Liquid Contempt sits around 1,089 ex (about 8.5 divine) with 223k traded and is up roughly 175% over four days as jewel crafters wake up. Potent Liquid Contempt (the regular amulet version) is about 685 ex, and Concentrated Liquid Isolation about 585 ex, both driven by popular anoints. The lesson: the Ancient prefix alone is not value. Ancient Potent Liquid Melancholy is around 27 ex and Ancient Potent Liquid Ferocity under 10 ex, because neither carries the +1 affix craft. Diluted Ancients are near vendor trash. Price your drops before you stash them: paste the lot into the stash valuator, watch movers on the market page, and the reward picker ranks any Remnant reward list you paste by live value.
06 Quick FAQ
Can Ancient Liquid Emotions instill amulets in PoE 2 0.5?
No. The usage directions say to right click the emotion and left click a rare Time-Lost Jewel, and 0.5 era guides confirm they are exclusively Time-Lost Jewel crafting currency. For amulet anoints you need the regular (non-Ancient) versions.
Are Distilled Emotions and Liquid Emotions the same thing?
Yes. The items were renamed from Distilled Emotions to Liquid Emotions in patch 0.3.0. Older guides and trade listings sometimes still use the old name, but the mechanics described here are the 0.5 versions.
What is the most expensive Liquid Emotion in 0.5?
Ancient Potent Liquid Contempt, at roughly 1,089 Exalted (about 8.5 Divine) on league day 14, with heavy trade volume. It guarantees a +1 Prefix or +1 Suffix Modifier allowed craft on a rare Time-Lost Jewel. Our price page for it updates live.
How many Liquid Emotions does one amulet anoint take?
Three. Each skill-tree Notable has a fixed recipe of three emotions: hover the Notable on your passive tree and press Alt to see exactly which three you need before you buy anything. The 16 instill-only Notables added in 0.5 come from the Potent emotions and do not appear on the tree.
Should I use my Ancient Potent Liquid Contempt or sell it?
Sell it unless your build genuinely scales off a near perfect Time-Lost Jewel and you already own a rare worth pushing. At around 8.5 Divine it is one of the best single-item paydays a Delirium farmer can hit on day 14.
