BUILD META · 0.5 RUNES OF ALDUR

Is Energy Shield good in 0.5?

Short answer: heavily nerfed, but not dead. 0.5 gutted ES recovery across the board, so pure ES-stacking lost its facetank feel, but ES is still viable, especially as a hybrid and on certain ascendancies. Here’s the honest read.

01 What GGG changed

GGG’s notes: "Recovery and Notable Passives heavily nerfed across the board." Community testing puts ES recovery/regen down roughly 50–66% from gear, the passive tree and runes, with several "increased ES + faster recharge start" notables reduced. With leech also hard-capped this patch, pure ES now leans toward glass-cannon.

02 The honest read

Experienced players say ES is still viable: the raw ES ceiling is largely intact; it’s the recovery that got hit. Lich remains a strong ascendancy (its passive defenses compensate), hybrid Evasion + ES is emerging as the meta approach, and Convalescence (unchanged) is now near-mandatory for instant recharge. Bottom line: it’s no longer the brain-off facetank it was, but it’s strong when built deliberately.

⚠ The meta is still settling. This reflects GGG’s 0.5 notes + early consensus. For the live verdict see our tier list or the Build Picker.

FAQ Quick answers

Is Energy Shield dead in 0.5?

No. Recovery was heavily nerfed (~50–66%), but the ES ceiling is intact. It’s viable as hybrid Evasion/ES, on ascendancies like Lich, and with Convalescence for instant recharge.

What got nerfed?

ES recovery and recharge-related notable passives, across gear, the tree and runes. Leech was also hard-capped, which removes another sustain layer.

How do you make ES work now?

Lean hybrid (Evasion + ES), take Convalescence for instant recharge, and pick ascendancies that add passive mitigation rather than relying on fast recharge.
