What is Runic Ward in 0.5?

Runic Ward is the new defensive layer in 0.5: a second life pool that kicks in when your life hits 1, and the resource that fuels the new Kalguuran skills. Here’s exactly how it works and how to get it.

01 What it is

Runic Ward sits underneath your Life as a second pool. Once your Life drops to 1, incoming damage starts eating your Ward instead. You only actually die when Ward hits 0. It regenerates over time, so a fight you survive tops you back up shortly after.

02 How to get it

You add Runic Ward to armour through Runeforging (spending Verisium). Armour below level 55 gains it for free, no stats sacrificed. Above level 55, the piece trades some of its regular defences for Ward, so it’s a build choice, not a freebie.

Runeforging is the 0.5 crafting loop. See the Verisium & Runeforging guide for how to farm the currency and what else it upgrades.

03 It’s also a resource

Ward does a second job: the new Kalguuran skills and supports spend Runic Ward instead of mana, with no attribute requirements, no gem-colour restrictions, and no weapon requirements (any class, any weapon can slot them). So the same pool that eats hits also fuels your new gems. See the 21 new Kalguuran skills.

FAQ Quick answers

What is Runic Ward in PoE 2?

A 0.5 defensive layer: a second life pool that activates when your Life hits 1 and regenerates over time. It also doubles as the resource that powers the new Kalguuran skills.

How do you get Runic Ward?

Runeforge it onto armour with Verisium. Armour below level 55 gains it free; above 55 it trades some regular defences for Ward.

Does Runic Ward block all damage?

No, it’s a second pool after Life. Damage hits Ward only once Life is at 1, and you die when Ward reaches 0.
